EACJ Restrains EALA from Censuring the Speaker Pending its Ruling.

The First Instance Division in its interim ordered EALA\r\nto maintain status quo of the Speaker and restrained it from deliberating on\r\nthe matter of the removal of the Speaker pending the delivery of its ruling on\r\n29th May 2014. The order was made after hearing of applications filed by Hon.\r\nMargareth Nantongo Zziwa, Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly\r\n(EALA) and Mbidde Foundation Limited (Applicants) versus the Secretary General\r\nof the East African Community and the Attorney General of the Republic of\r\nUganda (Respondents)

\r\n\r\n

The Applicants are seeking an interim injunction from\r\nCourt against the Secretary General and the Republic of Uganda directing EALA\r\nto refrain from referring the motions for resolution to remove the speaker of\r\nEALA to the allegedly improperly constituted Committee on Legal, Rules and\r\nPrivileges. The applicants also seek an order against the EALA Committee on\r\nLegal, Rules and Privileges to refrain from conducting any investigation in\r\nthis matter pending the hearing and determination of the main case.

The matter came before Hon. Justice Jean Bosco Butasi, the\r\nHon. Principal Judge, Hon. Justice Isaac Lenaola Deputy Principal Judge and Hon.\r\nLady Justice Monica Mugenyi.
